RALEIGH, N.C. (AP)
A state Senate bill requiring North Carolina school districts to approve more detailed anti-bullying policies is moving ahead in the House.

The House Education Committee recommended the measure Thursday.

Districts would have to create policies that at a minimum list perceived characteristics of a person likely to be bullied. The list is laid out in the bill, which next goes to a House judiciary panel.

Alison Davis of Durham says the bill would protect her three sons, each of whom have autism and are teased harshly at school.

Former President Bill Clinton will lead a major fundraiser in New York City to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS among black Americans.

Clinton is chairing the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS' benefit gala next week.

The commission brings together black religious leaders, elected officials, medical professionals, busines s owners and policy experts. It helps to implement prevention, testing, and treatment strategies in local communities.

An openly gay man was voted prom queen at Los Angeles' Fairfax High School in a campaign that began as a stunt but ended up spurring discussion on the campus about gender roles and teen popularity.

Sergio Garcia, 18, was crowned queen Saturday night at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

"I feel invincible," Garcia said in his tiara and charcoal-gray tuxedo.

A few days earlier, he gave a speech that won over some cynics and led to an ovation and his unlikely victory.
